Mima Textile Workshop

First collection of Silk Scarves

Lately I have been working very hard on designing and producing a collection of luxurious batik and hand painted 100% silk scarves. Each scarf is an Artwork, each completely unique, it can be worn, framed or simply draped around the home decoratively. Inspired by a mix of line and shape, florals and improvised drawing the scarves are bold, bright and very cheerful. Take a peek –

Tenants Exhibition and Open Studios

We have had an amazing weekend at Saltburn Artists Project, thank you to everyone who came to visit us and congratulation to everybody involved with Saltburn Arts Fair.
The exhibition and open studios was the first chance for me to show my fist collection of batik and hand painted silk scarves alongside some of my silk and cut-work cotton cushions. I was made up to have prime position in the window of the gallery.

Saltburn Arts Fair!

This weekend it is all happening in Saltburn for the towns first ever Arts Fair. I will be exhibiting in the studio tenants exhibition in the gallery at Saltburn Artists project from 10.00 am - 5.00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Plus we will be opening the doors of our studios on Sunday giving you the chance to have a look around, meet the artists and buy some unique works of art. Jubilee Art Trolley!

Celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee this weekend by coming along to mima and creating your very own memorabilia on the jubilee trolley. Activities include crown and tiara making. Make a flag, a queen puppet or even a commemorative jubilee paper plate. You can also help make the mima jubilee bunting grow by decorating some bunting pieces which will then be displayed for all to see.

MS Paint Exhibition

You may remember that back in February I did a post on an MS Paint competition/exhibition. Well here’s some exciting news, the MS Paint exhibition is now on at the ARC in Stockton. It features new works of art created using the classic computer program produced by a diverse selection of artists from both the local community around the world, including myself. Subjects range from renaissance style drawings to dinosaurs wearing make-up. It’s a must see! Exhibition ends 30th May 2012

African Wall Hangings

I visited Saint Benedict’s School today to have a look at the competed African inspired textile hangings which are now proudly displayed on the wall in the school hall. They look fantastic, well done year 4 pupils, you should be very proud. Great work!!

Easter Art Trolley!

If you’re looking for something to do with the family this Easter weekend then why not pop along to mima and do some Easter inspired crafts. Drop in and get creative with the Art Trolley this Saturday between 1-4pm. The trolley will also run during the week over the Easter Break from the 10th to the 13th of April, 11am-12noon. African Textile Workshop – Day 3!

Yesterday was my final day at school working with year 4 pupils on the African inspired wall hangings. We had a really productive day completing all of the batik and painting.
 
Now all that’s left are the finishing touches which include ironing off the wax, fixing the colour and attaching the children’s felt animal shapes. Watch this space to see the completed wall hangings . . .
