Busy, Busy, Busy!!

Sorry it has been so long since I last updated my blog, the past month has been a very busy time for me. Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to every one who came to visit us at Saltburn Artists Projects during 'The Exhibitionist' weekend that took place at the end of May. The weekend was a great success :-)

The collaboration I am working on with 'Designed Silver' is still ongoing. A selection of cards and boxes are now available to buy in the Redcar shop. But watch this space as many more designs are currently being developed and will also be available very soon.
Tomorrow I am going back to my old primary school with fellow studio tenatant Glynis Johnson. We will be working with the children to produce four huge textile banners which we hope will be hung in the school for years to come. It will be the first of a number of days we will spend in the school working with the children to design and create the banner's based on the four house groups. We will be using a number of different techniques including 'Batik'. I love this technique and have enjoyed spending time experimenting with it. Below are a few samples I have produced in preparation. I am really looking forward to this project!

I will keep you updated on how it goes :-)

News Update!

Since returning back from London I have been busy working on some new drawings which I plan to base a new collection of wallpaper designs on. I am continuing with the theme of decorative ceramics, tiles and mosaic but mixing this with florals.

Currently I am also collaborating with Glynis Darlow a Jewellery Designer who specialises in making beautiful handmade silver jewellery. I am working with her to produce a collection of bespoke cards and decorative gift boxes/sleeves which will be available to buy alongside her jewellery. Take a look at her work at - http://www.designedsilver.co.uk/.

Inspired by florals and the shapes Glynis uses in her jewellery I have produced my first prototypes.

As well as this I aim to create a new piece of work to exhibit in the tenants exhibiton taking place Saltburn Artists Projects in a few weeks. I also have another project with a school lined up to go ahead within the next few months, so watch this space for pictures to see how that one goes!

The event will be taking place from Friday 27th to Monday 30th of May across venues in the Redcar & Cleveland Area. Over this weekend I will be opening my studio as well as exhibiting work alongside my fellow studio artists in a tenants exhibition held in the gallery at Saltburn Artists Projects.

Fromental Placement

Just this weekend I have returned home from a short but brilliant placement in London with top wallpaper design company Fromental. Fromental wallpapers are entirely hand-made, with the pattern redesigned to perfectly fit the clients room. The composition, colours and techniques are tailored to meet individual requirements. Fromental use a combination of painting and hand-embroidery, skills honed by Chinese artists over hundreds of years. The wallpapers are available in a range of colourways on silk and opulent, lacquer-effect backgrounds. Their beautiful and luxurious wallpapers adorn some of the most prestigious commercial and residential properties across the globe.

There are three distinct collections, ranging from traditional through to entirely contemporary. These are -
The Chinoiserie Collection
20th Century Collection
Roomskin

Chinoiserie Collection - incorporates a number of designs in a range of styles from soft, delicate 18th Century tones, through to bold, monochromatic and super modern 'pop' colourways.

20th Century Collection - comprises eligant floral and conversational pieces, sophisticated supergraphics and chic designs for children's rooms.

Roomskins - employs the same painstaking techniques to create a variety of subtly repeating motifs and interesting textures, refined and luxurious backdrops to any room.
It has been a privilege to work and spend time with Tim Butcher and Lizzie Deshayes, the directors of Fromental who have previously worked in fashion and interiors and have nearly twenty years experience in designing, producing and restoring hand-made wallpaper. My time at Frometal has been both hugely informative and inspiring. Thanks to everyone there, especillay to Lizzie for inviting me and giving me the amazing opportunity.
